Becca: What’s new, 802? I’m Becca Hammond, and you’re listening to Vermont Talks. Vermont talks may include graphic or explicit content. Listener discretion is advised. All right.
Becca: Welcome to the 74th interview of Vermont Talks. It is Saturday, August 22nd. I am at Brio Coffee on Pine Street in Burlington, Vermont, with Darius and Taylor, who are the creators of the Burlington Night Council. They are the hosts of the annual Wizard Night and other themed bar curls in Burlington, Vermont. They have been there have been three Wizard Nights so far, which is incredibly impressive. And there are have been other themed bar curls like clowns, pirates, and vampires.
And in just a week, a week, Cowboy Night is coming up on Saturday, 8 29. Sure is. Big deal. Okay. Let us talk about the clowns, please. Oh boy, all right, yeah. Let’s get right into it. When did the clowns happen? Because I didn’t know about this.
Taylor: So Clown Knig was like, was it late 2024, early 2025? We had a friend who went to spend a year in New Zealand. And it was per request as like her last hurrah before she went away for a year. And that was the night that no one was excited to do until we were like all in costume and then couldn’t stop giggling at ourselves in the mirror.
Darius: Clown night had such like broad bit potential. I feel like we all really only scratched the surface. I think so too. And we were we were out there, like that was the first one that kind of broke containment. Yeah. Where people were like freaking out about it later, like, why were there clowns? What’s going on?
Taylor: There were a lot of Reddit posts, and we had probably like somewhere between like 30 and 40 clowns out that night. Beautiful. Yeah, so sorry to anyone that was spooked or traumatized by clown night. But that’s a little bit time. Yeah, maybe only a little sorry.
Becca: They’re very polarizing. I feel like if you want attention, just dress as a clown. It’s true.
Darius: Clowns are definitely, you know, not they’re not, they’re a little hit or miss, you know. Not everybody is down.
Becca: Was it a good mix of scary clowns and uh, you know, silly, I think clowns.
Darius: I think it was mostly silly clowns that were sort of scaryified by the context. Like our our buddy Jasper got a full, like like the full Ronald McDonald wig uh going on. And he just because of the depth of his costume was I think one of our scariest clowns, just because it was like, ugh.
Taylor: And there’s also like a level of quality execution that I feel like measures the scariness of the clown. And we encourage all levels of quality execution here. Like we we don’t care if you make all your stuff out of like cardboard and taper. I think that’s awesome.
Darius: I’d almost go so far to say we we specifically encourage low budget. Right.
Taylor: But the lower budget the clown, I feel like the scarier the clown is almost. For sure.
Becca: When it’s at night, of course, because obviously the bar curls are happening at night. Yeah. Probably around Church Street, because that’s where all of the bars are for the most part. Indeed. It can be a little creepy. Yeah, I can see. Clowns zooming in the evening. And you said it was cold.
Darius: It was, I believe, I believe I remember it being cold, but that might just be it.
Taylor: I’m like looking through my photos right now to find out when it was. There we go.
Becca: That makes it even scarier. January 8th.
Taylor: January. There you go.
Becca: Yes, because it’s dark at like five o’clock at night. Here’s our good. The good photo. Oh, beautiful.
Darius: Yes, you need to send this to me so I can we can put that on the show notes. Plans for days. Yeah, absolutely.
Becca: Love the pictures. Uh, I love that that many people showed up for this too. Yeah. Okay, Like, okay, so you have the Instagram. Let us talk. Yeah. Burlington VT Night Council Instagram. And it’s your whole thing. It’s it’s where you go.
Taylor: I pretty much, yeah. I just started that to advertise Cowboy Night because we had done it via some emails and some flyers and some Reddit posts, but we had a lot of people being like, I wish I had had more notice for this. I wish I had found out about this sooner. I have plans that night. So I feel like we wanted to make an earnest effort to notify people ahead of time while maintaining the kind of like loosey-goosey DIY vibes. Yeah. Like, I’m not gonna maintain a website for this. It’s just it’s not that serious. It’s really fun. Yeah.
Darius: In terms of scheduling, we do this when it’s like the first wizard night was for a birthday. Uh, and we had some other people coming into town. It was like, oh, well we’ve got to do something. And then Pirate Night, which was the second one we did, was uh I had some friends coming in from out of town who I wanted to give them the tour anyway. Right.
And they have um we we do like uh medieval uh sort of uh recreation together, and they had a bunch of pirate gear, and I was like, bring your pirate stuff or we’ll do a pirate night, it’ll be great. Yeah. Um a lot of these kind of ended up getting organized around like, oh, one of our friends is leaving. Oh, one of our friends is back. So it’s we don’t always know when they’re gonna happen. Right. Yeah, very fair. Okay, so watch the Reddit.
Becca: Watch Reddit, watch the Instagram. Yeah, uh, you said there’s a Google form to fill out to be notified of these things.
Darius: The the the real thing I’d I’d say is watch posters. Okay. Look at the look at poster boards, get out in your community. Go take a walk. Touch some grad. Yeah. Um we we’ve always tried. I think we started doing posters before we did anything else. Yes. I think the first, I think the second wizard night we made posters for.
Becca: Traditional DIY. That’s the way to market, right? Exactly. Exactly. And Burlington’s full of that kind of thing downtown. I love we all love the Burlington community. We don’t need to talk about how great it is, but obviously.
Taylor: We’re all wandering around downtown. That’s kind of like the hub. Yeah. Did you say there’s a specific bar you meet up at? Did I miss that? Or Yeah.
Taylor: so we encourage roaming parties of whatever theme we’re doing that night. Like Wizard Night this past year. We heard about wizard parties that we never even saw, which was awesome. But if people want to be a part of a larger group, if you’re feeling a little skittish if this is your first time, we typically start out at the patio at three meets around nine o’clock. And that’s where we’ll take our big group photo in front of the needs mural. That’s been like the tradition. Great spot to start from. I love everyone likes the needs patio. Yeah.
Darius: They got room, you know, they’re they’re they’re chill there.
Taylor: They’re down to clown.
Darius: Unofficial unofficial function.
Taylor: We’re not we are not affiliated with three needs, but we do love them. Yeah.
Becca: It’s like a decentralized event. Yeah. No, this is not. So good. Because you don’t have to worry about so much of the nonsense around like, oh, we’re gonna have one event in one location and you need insurance, you need to pay for the venue to six million things. No. Just put on a wizard costume. Show up, have fun. Yeah, yeah.
Darius: This is this is optimized around just screwing around and having a good time. And it’s we’re we’re trying to keep it as light as possible. Yeah.
Becca: Okay, so the night council, as soon as I heard the name, and obviously Wizard Night, three years. Yeah. Three years is impressive for any annual event in the last of three years. Is it in reference to anything specific in Wizard Lore? Because I immediately thought of Terry Cratchit.
Taylor: Who came up with the Night Council? Because I was just informed of it.
Darius: I think it was it was just me and Thorn, uh Thorne, my my lovely partner. Uh we were just kind of like spitballing between each other and kind of I think we we sort of arrived at night council. Uh, and then I I sort of put that forward to the rest of the folks that we usually organizate with, Taylor included.
Taylor: I think another friend of ours was referring to us as like the swag money night gang for a little bit, but I don’t think
Darius: that’s Shadow Wizard Money
Taylor: Gang, Shatter Wizard Money Gang, whatever it was. Too many words. But yeah, first of all, I think that’s a lot of words. Second of all, it doesn’t really capture the wizard energy. I think.
Darius: Yeah, and I don’t I didn’t want to go with something wizard specific because we’re we’re doing other stuff. Right.
Becca: Uh night council’s kind of perfect.
Darius: Night council is it’s a little wizard, but not like, you know.
Becca: Right, right.
Taylor: But also we’re all the pirates. in here.
Darius: Oh, we’re all huge on the Pratchett.
Taylor: So it’s not surprising that that is that’s-
Darius: Yeah, definitely definitely sort of that’s the kind of vibe of wizards we’re going for. You know, no British school children. Big dinners, no British school children.
Becca: Yes, the the big I think the first picture I saw was the Instagram, and I was like, what is this nonsense? This is so beautiful. Uh somebody had a big beard on and like the full pointy hat and a row and like reminded me of the gosh, I’m gonna butcher the name Fantasia, the little phantom wizard with Mickey, right?
Taylor: Mickey Mouse. They had the they’re kind of triangle-shaped. Traditional wizards.
Taylor: Yeah, we are um like our immediate friend group, I think is really lucky because so many of them are involved in like the Renfair LARPing community, and a lot of us have kind of a costume stash like tucked away. Right.
Darius: Or just the ability to sort of summon costumes out of whole clothes. Right. Uh literally. It’s a crafty friend group. Yeah.
Taylor: Um, and we like to go hard, I think. Yeah. Yeah. It’s like the stuff in the back of your closet that you only get to wear once or twice a year.
Becca: Yes. Yes. I don’t think there’s enough classroom, to be honest. No.
Taylor: Don’t get to play dress up enough. Yeah.
Becca: Right. Right. And it’s fun that show up places with your friends where you dress as the same thing. I’ve been joking about doing like a Hulk Hogan thing. I’m like, we just need to show you.
Darius: Don’t get me started on wrestling night. We gotta do wrestling night.
Taylor: Yeah, like just got to be.
Darius: I’m a enormous mark, so I’m I that I I will I will drag all of my friends into wrestling night.
Taylor: Well, we should do that’s the funniest idea
Becca: every idea is like for names too, because everyone needs a name to be a wrestler, right? Yeah. Oh yeah. I just don’t show up at like trivia night at the monkey house with all of us dressed as Hogan or what we don’t want to do anything else. That’s literally the whole thing. Yeah. Oh my god. It’s fun. It it gives you a reason to take more pictures.
Taylor: So I guess watch out for wrestling night folks.
Darius: Oh yeah, yeah. Oh, you’ll never see it coming. It’ll be an elbow drop from the top rope for sure. Yes. I keep it. We’re all gonna completely ruin our knees permanently. It’ll be great.
Becca: There is a uh I and I’ve we have these random moments on the show, but there is a B class wrestler named Steven Flo. Have either of you heard of this guy. His entire thing is up the Pearl Jam song. Oh like even Flo. But it’s just his name over and over again. Stephen Flo.
Darius: Stephen Flo. I have I have seen the video to this man.
Becca: And much flannel. Flannel on top of flannel. He’s got it like wrapped around his waist and wearing it, and that’s the whole guy.
Taylor: That’s the man that’s committed to the bit. He’s not them at all the bar crawls. Beautiful.
Darius: Silly wrestling forever, spooky wrestling forever.
Becca: You don’t have to take life so seriously. Yeah. Yeah. I love stuff like that.
Darius: Shout out to fucking V O Rush, who’s out there scrambling around like Gollum right now, and like wrestling’s great. We’re this is a tangent, anyway. Wrestling night. Okay. Yeah. On the On the list. On the list. We have a long list. Yeah.
Becca: Oh, well, that’s it. Anything. Anything kind of simple that people can put together easily. I love costumes. Some events are very intimidating because some people are so serious about the costumes that oh.
Taylor: No, we really just want this to be something that people feel like they can show up to with whatever’s in their closet. Yeah. Um we also like no promises, but we try to buy some like props or like party favor stuff that’s on theme so that they can kind of be handed out like at the night. Yeah. We had a bunch of people show up to cow, um, not cowboy night, that’s what’s coming up. Pirate nights, and just got like handed inflatable swords, and that was their pirate. Right. Yeah. So we want it to feel very low barrier. We want it to feel welcoming and not intimidating.
Darius: Like my my wizard hat is made out of duct tape and cardboard. It’s literally like I can I got pictures of it. It is it is duct tape, cardboard, and like the cheapest uh acrylic paint I could get at the hardware store. Yeah, perfect. And you know, that that’s the it was it was that and a bathrobe.
Um, Face, face, face, face. really, really and again, I like we encourage the sort of like things to be visibly DIY and low budget because I think that encourages people who just see it walking by to go, oh I can do that. Yeah, I can join in, you know. We don’t we don’t want this to be intimidating. We want this to be you know, the crawl is for all, yeah.
Becca: Uh I was joking about the and I’m sorry, I know a lot of people hate the new girl, but New Girl had an episode about uh bar crawl on Valentine’s Night. And that became the chan.
More and more people just joined up to the point where it was like a moving crowd going from bar to bar, screaming the crawl is f for all. What a beautiful dream. What a beautiful, like, oh, we’re gonna go out and drink.
Taylor: What a beautiful picture they paint. Yes.
Becca: Uh they could have been singing Kumbaya, but it was way cooler than that. Yeah. Just a group of people joining together is kind of a wonderful idea. And yeah, if they can just join up and be like, you know, I feel like a wizard tonight.
Taylor: Yeah, it’s like it’s both the sense of wanting to like build and maintain community and also the need to let go and have fun. Because everything is so heavy and so harsh right now and very hostile. Um, and I feel like everyone needs to be able to step out of that and let their selves go, right? Yeah, yeah.
Darius: And that’s also part of why I think it’s important to do this in like a public area, like downtown, right? Going to bars, being out. Um I feel like it’s important to sort of do that kind of stuff, have that kind of freedom in spaces that we all share.
Because, you know, if if we were all just to do this, you know, if if if wizard night had just been a wizard themed party at some somebody’s house, it wouldn’t have been the same, and it wouldn’t be like as sort of memorable or freeing as it is. Yeah. Um and we want it to be sticky. We want it to be sort of accessible to people.
Becca: Um it’s a fun way to make new friends. Yeah. I feel like in our bar it’s hard to approach people in some ways. And uh uh people complain about this all the time on Reddit specifically, since the the crawls were coming up on Reddit. Yeah. So I’m guessing the Burlington subreddit, which is amazingly uh active.
Taylor: It sure is for better or for worse, mostly for worse. Um we have opinions about the thing.
Taylor: But yeah, people are really into the bar crawls on R/slash Burlington, and that makes me really happy.
Darius: Yeah, I feel like there are a lot of people who are just looking for something interesting to do. Yeah, right, right.
Becca: Come out and meet people, and it’s an easy way to strike up a conversation.
Darius: Exactly. Yeah, it’s it’s really easy to see somebody. And I think there’s a little there’s there’s like a just a a little bit of a hint of a degree of depersonalization that happens when you’re dressed up as a wizard. People aren’t looking at you being like, oh another guy at the bar.
Taylor: Oh, a wizard. What’s going wrong? One of the coolest things at the bar. I think Halloween night is one of the most fun nights to go out. Because everyone kind of lets their guard down and just acts goofy. Yeah. And I we need more of that.
Becca: For what you said. We need more of that.
Taylor: Put on a wizard hat and get fucking drunk. What’s stopping you? Yeah.
Becca: Come up with some spells. Come up with your wizard persona, your wrestling persona, your cowboy persona.
Darius: Cast some spells on your both casting. Challenge one of your friends to a duel. Uh we had um, and like, you know, props are really important. Pirate night, we had a a whole like a we had a map of downtown, and we were sort of plotting out our next moves. We would like slap it down on the floor in the bar, and like we were having um, you know, sword fights down church street. It’s it’s all about like it’s kind of public art as much as it is a bar crawl.
Becca: Yeah, right. I love the maps. I love the map idea. That’s kind of fun. That was really funny. Right, because it’s one of those like little really like low barrier things, but if you’re like marking up the map all night, it’s almost like a scavenger kind of thing. But decentralized groups, too. That’s nice for the bars, I’m sure. If 500 people walk into a bar, they’re kind of freaking out about it. It’s nice if it’s just like 12 wizards showed up. Exactly. Yeah, yeah.
Taylor: I want to shout out Devil Takes a Holiday specifically because they are a small space and they are always so enthusiastic on every bar crawl, like just IDing people really fast, and like everyone gets a shot and leaves, and they are just so cool and they roll with the punches and they’re awesome.
Darius: And by God, they’re fireballs, they’re tasty.
Taylor: Oh my god, everything there is so great. Go to Devil Takes a Holiday. For real. Ti Pi. Yeah.
Becca: I love it. Yeah. Yeah, love it. Love the map idea, love the like just no tickets, no barrier to entry. Just show up. Tape tape some paper together.
Taylor: Yeah. No one’s making money off this. The only people who make money off this are the bars. Okay. Yeah. Right.
Becca: Oh, that’s fun. I love this idea so much. I’m I’m curious about all the little spots you’re going to. Which you might you might have to show up and actually go to a bar crawl to check this out. Yeah.
Taylor: So we typically start at needs, like we said. Um, and then we try to go to places that have no cover for obvious reasons, just because it’s like a one drink, and then we move on to the next place sort of deal.
Um, so like JP’s, we went to drink before it closed a couple times. We love Devil Takes a Holiday. We love Wallflower. Wallflower is also really cool and enthusiastic about the bar crawls. Yeah, they’re always killed. Yeah.
Darius: Um, and we’ve we’ve been we’ve been mixing it up every every time we we do this, we kind of experiment with our route and like, you know, no plan meets like or survives contact with uh downtown Burlington. So we have you know, the by the time we’re actually like somewhat hammered in starting the bar crawl, we’re like, okay, where do we want to go?
Taylor: Yeah, the group opinion is very important at the moment for the vibe. Right. Yeah. Right.
Becca: I love this idea so much. I think bar crawls are really like sweet in a funny, like, let’s go dead drunk kind of way. Yeah. That’s it. You’re you’re just showing up and supporting the bar and you’re moving on and having a hilarious time while
Taylor: you’re gonna do it. Yeah, you’re just having fun with your friends. Yeah.
Darius: And like, you know. I theoretically, drinking isn’t sort of necessary. A hundred percent. We do it because it’s fun and we enjoy it, but like um, you know, there are people who come to use and don’t take it all.
Becca: Yeah, you don’t need to. Right as long as you’re still having a great thing in the bar.
Taylor: Yeah, that’s the reason we try to go for places that have no cover, so that the people who aren’t drinking don’t feel like they have pay $10 to just like stand there. Yes. Right.
Becca: Thankfully, a lot of places are getting more open to the uh the mocktail concept. There’s interesting stuff to at least grab a drink, grab or you know, little bite or whatever. Keep yourself entertained. The fun is in being in the group, though. Like the fun is the party itself.
Taylor: The lack of third spaces, like sober spaces is annoying, but yeah, at least the sober people have something like nice that they could get. Right. And it is kind of a like.
Darius: Again, part of it is this desire we all have to kind of reclaim a town a town that’s feeling increasingly sort of hostile to anybody who isn’t the like eight or nine landowning families. Yep. Yes.
It really is just sort of a like there’s there’s a a little aspect of rebellion to it. No, we’re we’re here. You can’t you can’t make us leave. We’re gonna be weird and you can still have fun downtown.
Taylor: You can go downtown at night and look to tell the tale and nothing will happen to you. Yes. Oh, yes. Yeah.
Becca: Oh, I don’t want to harp on it too much, but Burlington’s fine. I’m so tired of the complaining. People, if Burlington was collapsing, the rent would not be so high. The rent would be dropping. There would be open vacancies.
Taylor: There’s not no one would be coming to school here.
Becca: No one would be coming to school. Like it’s fine. Unemployment rate is so low. Yeah.
Darius: I had a free like evening a couple days ago, uh, and nothing to do. And I I drove downtown. I went on one on church street and I like sat down at a restaurant I like, and I had myself a little dinner. And it was fucking lovely. Yeah. Wonderful evening, right? Like you can just do that. You can just go have some good ass food and listen to somebody like noodling on a guitar around the corner and enjoy the weather. Yes.
Taylor: Like, we don’t know how lucky we are to have what we have here. Yeah. Yes. Because Vermont is so insulated.
Becca: Yeah, I’m super grateful. It’s as nice as it is. I think if everyone looked at life a little more, like, what is there to be grateful for as opposed to what is there to bitch about? It’s good. Yeah. Like, there’s always something to bitch about if you look for it. You know, it’s it’s the same with good things too. Yeah. It’s always good stuff.
And for the most part, it’s actually way better here than worse. Yeah. Like it’s a good thing. We are extremely lucky. So it’s a little bar is still to go to. I know we’re all discouraged about nectars, I will say.
Taylor: It’s Very sad. Yeah. Yeah.
Becca: Yes, it’s a good thing. We’re losing history there, man.
Becca: But just to point out, again, it’s those same handful of families that are choosing to do this stuff. It’s not the people. We’re still going to the bars. We’re showing up and supporting the small businesses.
Darius: They can close as many bars as they want. We’ll do this in the street. Like we’ll we’ll do this in the park.
Becca: Uh it’s a community of spirit. Yes. Yeah. I love the uh the simplicity of all of this too. I know we mentioned the check out the Burlington VT Night Council Instagram, which I think links to the form. Is it linked to the form? And then it will soon. Okay.

Becca: Sometime in the next week. Hopefully, because hopefully cowboy, right? Is a massive success. Success being just people showing up, right?
Taylor: Yeah, that’s really all we want is for people to come out and have a good time. Yeah. Beautiful.
Darius: It’s it’s you know, if we if we manage to kind of hit the vibe right where we want it. It’s that’s a success for us. Many cowboy hats. Yeah. A lot of cowboy hats, a lot of people walking around like they’ve just been riding a horse for a week.
Becca: Oh, yeah, you’re right. You gotta get your cowboy hats. Oh, you gotta get the water.
Taylor: Hopping back and forth a little bit. Start your jeans up real good. Oh yeah. Yeah.
Becca: And there’s even a store to buy cowboy hats now. That’s like all they sell in Williston.
Taylor: Oh, yeah, the booth barns.
Becca: They like there is a store that supplies cowboy stuff.
Darius: I almost I almost don’t want to go in there because I’m afraid the stuff will be too good. Yeah.
Becca: It’s serious cowboy stuff. But I also heard that uh it’s uh what is the spooky Halloween store.
Taylor: Oh Spirit Halloween.
Becca: That’s open now.
Taylor: Oh, thank god. Yes, um, and also old gold is an awesome place to shop for a cowboy night. Um they have a lot of really great accessories, they have horsets. I don’t know if they have cowboy hats all the time, but I know I’ve seen them there in the past.
Darius: Um we try and hit old gold whenever we can.
Taylor: Yeah, right. Support local businesses first when you can, and then go to Spirit Halloween. Yeah.
Becca: Yes, yes. Uh the junk you can buy at Spirit always cracks me up. It’s amazing how bad they can make a cowboy hat. Like you’re like, oh yeah, this is a simple purchase. And then you’re like, wow, it actually causes me physical pain. Yeah.
Darius: Well, the good thing about these is that it only has to last for like, you know, five hours. Five or six hours, depending on how hardcore you party. Right.
Becca: And you can make a cowboy hat out of cardboard, too. Yeah. Think of how you could do it. You just need like a brim and a top, right? You can’t.
Taylor: Yes. And if you want to get geometric with it, there’s patterns online. Ooh. Yeah.
Darius: One of our friends is making a bunch of uh vests out of uh paper bags. Oh, sweet.
Becca: Like, oh, right. You need like a deputy star. Oh, there’s so there’s so many good things you can add to a cowboy costume. Yeah. Yeah.
Darius: The the the sort of the metrics we tend to judge like a theme on are like how possible is the costume, how readable is it? Right. Um and like what kind of props are available to us. Are they good props? Can we make make shit happen with them? Right. Just sort of like bit potential. Yes. Uh bit potential is really really massive.
Becca: Yes. Oh yeah, the cowboy. The cowboy accents, the walk.
Darius: Like there’s so many things. The walk. Like yelling yeehaw. Trying to herd things. Yeah.
Taylor: The lasso.
Darius: Oh, I gotta go get some rope for a lassie. Yeah. Oh man. Beautiful.
Becca: See, see, we just gave you like 40 anything. Yeah. Get on it, people. I love something where it’s as simple as a hat, too. Because that’s it, you don’t need a lot.
No. And you can make it yourself. Even uh like the foam board they sell at uh like walk greens. Yeah. You can get a foam board into something with duct tape and have it be comfy.
Taylor: And low key, this is Vermont. I feel like a lot of people will have like cowboy boots or a cowboy hat already.
Darius: Yeah, you have a belt buckle somewhere. If you don’t, you know somebody who does. Yeah. Like.
Becca: Yeah, cowboy’s one of those things that I think at some point everyone does that for Halloween or something. Right. So you do, you end up and pirate too. You just end up with this stuff.
Darius: Well, pirate literally you just you you get a bandana, you tie it on your head. You’re a pirate now. You did it. Yep. Oh, you want to be a wizard? I don’t know. Do you have like a bathrobe or uh, you know, a stick. A stick. Do you have a um glitter? You could cut a hole in. Damn, you’re a wizard now. You did it. Like ghost knight.
Becca: You guys should do a ghost.
Darius: We’ve considered that. That that’s that’s on the list. Just all shit.
Taylor: That’s extremely funny. That is extremely funny.
Darius: You can vary what you got under there. Like I I feel like I could pull off the fish nets. Right. All right.
Taylor: Um a sexy ghost.
Becca: Little she little sheet. It just comes up. Love it. See what a couple of small community moments. Oh my god.
Darius: This happens anytime we’re talking about this. People just like everybody has an idea. Yeah. for a theme like this. And like we’ve been organizing these, but nothing’s stopping anybody from doing this at any time.
Taylor: You could be the Burlington night council lister. You right now. It’s not an exclusive group. So cool.
Becca: Okay, so I shot you a message on Instagram because I was like, what is this? This is hilarious. I want to end. Um sounds like other people can also reach out to you there. Spot. Uh any anything else besides that cowboy night is coming up on Saturday, 829, meeting up at three needs around nine o’clock.
Taylor: Um yeah, just for like logistics, um, no fake guns, no toy guns, nothing that shoots real projectiles just to avoid any miscommunication and keep everyone feeling safe. If you want a gun like prop, bring a banana. Yeah, bring a banana and that’ll be your gun.
Darius: Um maybe, maybe I’ll be outside like a very bright plastic water gun.
Taylor: Yeah, but that shit better be like neon green.
Darius: Yeah, you know what I mean. That should better look like an alien. Yeah.
Becca: It’s for fun. It’s a joke. Don’t be a yeah.
Darius: There there, there’s a way to like wrap a rubber band around your hand where you can kind of do a finger gun and then shoot a rubber band off, which is very fun. Yeah. I think I am going to be carrying a bunch of rubber bands around for that. Just so we can have the fun artifice of like you know, challenging somebody to like, you know, yeah, rubber bands, free patents or whatever. Yeah, right.
Taylor: Um but outside of that, have fun, be nice, tip well. Yeah. Yeah.
Darius: This is the this is a celebration of our shared spaces, and a lot of those shared spaces are bars, and a lot of those bars are like, you know, all of those bars, in fact, are staffed by people who get paid to do that.
Yep. And it is not fun or cool to make their jobs hard. So order order things that are easy to make to pie. Yes. Be cool. Don’t make a mess.
Becca: Yes, that’s a that’s a very nice thing to point out. If you’re going on a bar crawl, yeah. I get it if you want to order like one nice drink at one bar.
Darius: Oh, for sure. Especially if you’re starting out.
Becca: Right, but don’t expect them to do this really fast for you and like run out the door immediately.
Darius: Do not walk up to a spot and order 20 cocktails in a row and expect to leave there within like a couple of hours. Like you’re gonna be there a while. Right.
Even if you just, you know, even if it’s just a couple of you, it’s gonna take a while to drink those. Yes. Whereas if you just go and do a round of shots, you’re in and out.
Becca: Yes, shots are quickest. I’ve heard of people doing like pints. Yeah. If you’re gonna be there for 20 minutes, like okay.
Darius: Jobs, maybe if you don’t like either of those options, get like a remote code, right? Like a like a two ingredient mix. Yeah. Yeah. Don’t don’t like don’t roll in and be like, yeah, give me a give me like a whiskey highball, but one of the really complicated ones. Right. Yeah. Right.
Becca: And drink lots of water as you’re doing this. Yes, I agree. Always drink water. Especially in the summer. If you guys are doing this when it’s hot out and you’re in costume, drink lots of water.
Darius: So much water. Even even in the winter, because you’re gonna be, you know, places are gonna be heated. You’re gonna be wearing warm shit, possibly. Yes.
Becca: And if you are partaking in the drinking, you are gonna get dehydrated so fast. Oh my god, yeah. Drink your water and bring cash, because the bars appreciate that. That’s a good bring cash. I’m trying to think. What else what else do you need to prepare besides your costume? That’s probably about it.
Taylor: I think that’s really it. Just show up prepared to have a good time. Yeah, right.
Darius: Um, you know, bring your friends if if your friends are interested. Um This is a group activity.
Becca: you can be the one cowboy that encourages your from your friends. You hell, you can at this point, you can
Darius: ideally you can show up on your own as a cowboy, and you’ll run into more cowboys. You’ll make friends. Surprise, you’ve made friends, yeah. Made friends. Ah, love this.
Becca: This is wonderful event idea. I love things like this that aren’t that aren’t in just one spot, and they aren’t just like, oh, you’re paying us 60, 70 bucks a ticket. Like, oof, a lot of events are so expensive.
Taylor: Yeah, no corporate bar crawls.
